Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

In DHS surveys, hv024, v024, or mv024, called "region", gives admin level 1. The file names and variable names are standard across surveys. When questions related to child labor are included, the variables should be in the PR ("person record") file. A DHS colleague may add more detail.
