Alternatively, consider adding a new question in the household schedule asking "Who is the main caretaker of each child (especially those under the age of 10) in the household?"

Also, mothers generally bear the lion's share of childcare burden. Alternative childcare services, such as preschools, have been shown to relieve mothers of the care burden and empower them to participate in the labor market. Consider adding a new question in the household schedule: "Does HHM ever attend preschool?" Similarly, children entering primary schools at an earlier age might relieve mothers of care burden. Alternatively, consider adding a question in the household schedule: "When did HHM first attend school?"
