The request is submitted by HelpAge International.

Women make substantial contributions to unpaid care and domestic work in the family and in the community. This has an impact on their opportunities for economic empowerment. However there is a paucity of globally comparable statistics on extent of burden on women caregivers.

Additionally, men may also become caregivers later in life when wives/partners have increasing support needs. Yet data on the gender distribution of unpaid work is limited.

It is important to understand and recognize those who provide unpaid care, the value of home care provision in low- and middle-income countries, and those who are most likely to need care.

Therefore HelpAge International requests that:
i. A set of questions on unpaid care is introduced in the 'Gender empowerment and women's empowerment module',
ii. The questions will cover information about care provision within a household and in the community, and time spent on care.
iii. Information is collected from/about members of household of both sexes and includes persons above the age of 49.
