Dear colleague,

It is our pleasure to share our proposal that includes two requests related to the indicator of deworming coverage in the "Maternal and Child Health" survey. This request is being submitted of behalf of a diverse group in global health that represent government (USAID, CDC), WHO, non-governmental organizations, and academia.

Request #1 (Priority request)
The first request (priority request) concerns the individual question H43, which asks mothers about whether their child (age 0-5 years) received "Drugs for intestinal parasites in last 6 months" prior to the survey. This individual maternal question only reflects data for children <5 years. We request the H43 question is expanded to additionally ask mothers about deworming in their children ages 5-14 years in the last 6 months.

Request #2
The second request concerns the addition of a new question to DHS for school-based deworming. We request addition of a new survey question that asks mothers about whether their child (age 5-14 years) received "Deworming medication in school in last 6 months" prior to the survey.

We request that an existing DHS question is expanded to ask mothers about deworming against soil-transmitted helminth infections in their older children (ages 5-14) and to add a new question on school-based deworming (ages 5-14 years) to extend this actionable data to a key age group for global deworming. Deworming is an important part of a comprehensive package to eliminate morbidity due to soil-transmitted helminth infections in pre-school and school-age children, and this revision of DHS-8 will greatly support global public health efforts and program implementation.

We have attached the formal proposal using the DHS template for requested revisions.

Sincerely,
