Hello,

I've been trying to calculate the DHS unmet need estimates separately for ALL women, MARRIED women and UNMARRIED women, and wanted to make sure that I was using appropriate denominators for each group so that I can accurately re-generate the DHS unmet need estimates. For (a) ALL women, I use the entire sample of female respondents ages 15-49 as the denominator, (b) MARRIED women, I use married women ages 15-49 as the denominator, and (c) UNMARRIED women - I am unclear about which group DHS uses as the denominator. At first, I thought it was ALL unmarried women ages 15-49, but I don't think that is the case. Is the denominator instead all unmarried women who reported sexual activity in the past month?

Would appreciate any guidance on this matter.

Many thanks.
