Hi Mkyo,

I have an idea about what is happening here.

I think that maybe all dates in the year of birth data are showing only the last two digits of the Nepali date. So when the dataset gives year of birth as "2", or "38", what it really means is "2002" or "2038".

(NB These are Nepali dates, which are roughly 57 years ahead of Gregorian calendar dates- I think there is another post in the DHS forum about this date formatting).

This would mean that the proper range is 2002-2038, or in Gregorian format, 1945-1981.

It is just an idea of mine, but I think it makes sense... If it is correct then one simply need to recode all values in the dataset to +2000, and then subtract 57 to give Gregorian dates, if necessary.

Let me know if you have any further thoughts.

Best,

Dugald
