Dear Wincie,

In general, an easy way to find particular questions from particular surveys is through
IPUMS-DHS (www.idhsdata.org), which includes all of the standard Kenyan DHS surveys.

At the site, you click on GET DATA, select your unit of analysis (women in this case),
select the Kenyan samples that interest you, and browse through the TOPICS drop-down menu
(Insurance is a topic) or use SEARCH to look for Insurance questions. You have the option
to select to see the IPUMS-DHS variable names or the original DHS variable names (like
v481). It's all very intuitive.

Doing this, I see that there were six insurance questions in the Kenya 2008 survey and
seven in Kenya 2014.

IPUMS-DHS has some other useful features, such as alerting you to comparability problems,
letting you know what other surveys asked the same question, showing you the precise
question wording for each survey, and letting you download a dataset with all the samples
you want with only the variables (fully harmonized) that interest you.

IPUMS-DHS is funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Development, Grant No.
R01HD069471.

Best wishes,
Professor Liz Boyle (University of Minnesota)
