One of the variables, mother education is coded in 15 different columns for the *same respondent*, as shown in the image attached.

Does anyone have any insight as to why the data set would be coded this way? (Why the same information is being coded in so many separate columns for the same respondent?).

Normally this would not have been a problem. But there is some discrepancy between the columns. (i.e for certain respondents, the same education variable is coded as primary in the first column and secondary in the second column).
