I am currently trying to familiarize myself to DHS datasets and DHS analysis. I am trying to replicate Table 8.1(Early Childhood Mortality Rates) from Ethiopia DHS2011. I'm using stata to do my analysis and I am using the Birth Recode (BR) files for this analysis. I've read the "Guide to DHS Statistics" on how to perform the calculations by using a synthetic cohort life table approach, where mortality probabilities for small age segments based on real cohort mortality experience are combined into the more common age segments. But I am not completely clear on how to construct the component death probabilities, and would appreciate any additional guidance you may provide for this. Thank you!
