This information is contained in the DHS Recode Manual (link to the recode manuals here: http://dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsg4-dhs-que stionnaires-and-manuals.cfm), and depending on the package you are using, it may already be built into the variable. There are also a FRQ or FRW that comes in the ZIP file your dataset was shipped in that contains information on what the codes mean.

There is a wealth of information on how to use the data available on the DHS website and I suggest you familiarize yourself with them if you often use DHS data in your work. I work with a lot of datasets from different sources (including primary data my org* collects), and I can honestly say that DHS does an excellent job in providing documentation and datasets that are more or less ready to use.
