What does a ".a" response indicate? [message #2902] Mon, 08 September 2014 16:40 Go to previous message

Hi,

I'm trying to create categories from the floor type, toilet quality, and water quality variables. In a number of surveys (so far Armenia 2000/2005/2010 and Bangladesh 2007/2011) I have encountered a response code of ".a" for the variables v116 (toilet) and v127 (floor). I have checked the IR MAP files for these surveys, and I cannot seem to find what ".a" represents. There are a substantial number of observations coded ".a" (up to ~10% of the sample), so I'd hate to simply recode them all to missing if it means something different.

Any advice/thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
