Following is a response from Senior DHS Staff Member, Tom Pullum:
I don't quite understand the question. Your subject line refers to the Egypt surveys of 2000, 2005, and 2008, but in the message, you also refer to 2014 and 2015. The 2015 survey was a Special Survey. The others were Standard DHS Surveys. I would not recommend mixing in estimates from a Special Survey with estimates from Standard Surveys.
Before I open the data files myself, please clarify whether you are saying that (a) the variables on FGC are missing entirely in some of these surveys, or (b) the variables are included but all the values are a dot, or (c) the values are numeric for some cases and a dot for other cases. Which of these?
A dot in Stata means NA or not applicable. If a woman has no daughters, or no daughters in a specified age range, or any and all daughters are already circumcised, then she will not be asked if she intends to circumcise her daughter(s). The question would be meaningless (or hypothetical) and would be skipped. The questionnaire would have a filter/skip and that would be reflected with the NA code.
Please pick one of the surveys and tell us one of the variables, by variable name or number, that you are asking about.
