Pooling multiple years is not a "merge", it is an "append". You just add the second round of data onto the first round of data.
There are a number of posts on the forum about dealing with weights and clustering when using multiple survey rounds, but there is no "merging" to be done, just "appending"... the DHS is not longitudinal, so there is no information to be linked from one survey round to the next in terms of merging variables. Another survey is just another set of observations from a different point in time.
