Hi,

I happened to calculate myself the % of marriages that are consanguineous by region in the Jordan DHS 2017/18 as well as 2012.

However, I am receiving different results to what is presented in table 4.4 in the 2017 and 2012 final reports.

For example, for Amman 2017 using the S711A (whether blood related) and V024 (governorate region) variables the dataset tells me that 25.11312% of marriages are between blood relatives. However, table 4.4 states that it is 24.4%.

Additionally I have also calculated the % of marriages that are a first cousin on the father's side (ibn al amm). Again I get different percentages. For example for Amman 2017 I got that the proportion of blood related marriages that are 'ibn al amm' is 0.290540541 which if you multiply it by the proportion of marriages that are between blood relatives (0.2511312) gives you a an proportion of 0.07296379 - 7.296% of all marriages in Amman are between first cousins on the father's side (ibn al amm). However table 4.4 states that it is 7.0%.

It is not just Amman for which I get different results but for all the regions and for 2017 and 2012. Is consanguinity defined in a different way in the final report?

Many thanks
Olympia
