Dear DHS Experts, I am using 2016 Ethiopia DHS for examining the effects of female genital mutilation on Perinatal mortality. But, the challenges that I faced are: The number of eligible women in 2016 EDHS were 15,683 while the number of wome asked for female genital mutilation module were 7,822 as shown in table 16.2. So, why? Did all eligible women of aged 15-49 years asked for FGM or not? How can I creat a variable female genital mutilation categorized as type 1, type 2, type 3 and not circumcised? How can I get the result of figure 16.1 in Ethiopia DHS 2016? How can I create a dichotomise variable of perinatal mortality as women aged 15-49 years having perinatal death as yes, if no label as no?
Thank you for your help every one!!
Sincerly yours, Hassen A.

Dear Hassen,

I answered this question from you in a previous post but will answer here as well.

Stata code for FGM indicators can be found here: https://github.com/DHSProgram/DHS-Indicators-Stata/tree/mast er/Chap18_FG
Also you can read more about these indicators here: https://www.dhsprogram.com/Data/Guide-to-DHS-Statistics/inde x.htm#t=18_Female_Genital_Cutting.htm
The FGM indicators uses the IR file.

As mentioned previously, before attempting to run any code from our GitHub code share site, please read the readme file and the main file for the chapter.

Please try to use this code to see if you get a match with the final report.

For your question on perinatal mortality, this is a rate and you cannot create a binary variable from this.

Thank you.

Best,

Shireen Assaf
