Dear All,
I am trying to create the wealth index for Tanzania 1992 DHS, which does not have a wealth index data available. I would like the created index and the quantiles to be compatible with the wealth data available in the subsequent Tanzania DHS since I will be pooling data from all the available TDHS.
Has anyone ever created the index for DHS rounds were the wealth data is not available? If so, could you please share the syntax?
Thanks!

The Tanzania 1992 DHS predates the start of the use of the wealth index in DHS surveys. The 1992 survey also does not include many of the asset-related questions that would be needed to calculate a wealth index.
You should also note that the wealth index from one survey to another are not comparable, so just pooling data together and using the wealth index variables as they are would be wrong. The welth index is useful for intra-survey comparisons, but not inter-survey comparisons. To produce a wealth index variable that is comparable over time, you need to have the same set of assets data available in each survey, and then apply a consistent set of coefficients (see, for example, the factor scores in Tanzania 1996.xlsx and how they are applied if the household has the asset or does not have the asset).
