The DHS-7 questionnaire asks if women have "changed your usual place of residence compared with this time last year." How is the "usual place of residence" defined here? Would it be counted as a move if a woman simply moved across the street?

In the interviewer manual, the question is described as asking whether a woman has moved from her current LOCALITY of residence. What is the definition of a locality? I am using the 2015-2016 Myanmar DHS. Is a locality a township, ward, or a village?

Many thanks!

Following is a response from Anjushree Pradhan, DHS Survey Director.

The 2015-16 Myanmar DHS captured the movement across states and regions. It is not at the township level.

Thank you for response. Does this mean that interviewers were instructed specifically to ask only about within-region moves? The reason I ask: I find that out of the 332 women who reported having migrated in the past year, 108 report that their region of residence one year ago was the same as their current region of residence. Do you have any idea what this is capturing? (Respondents who perhaps interpreted the question differently and reported their within-region moves?)

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

The intention of this question would be to apply the definition of region that is given in hv024 (or v024 etc). That intention should have been clear to the interviewer and the respondent. I would assume that the responses are generally correct.
