Dear DHS experts,

I will like your guidance and clarity on the following issues that I have with calendar data in India DHS 2015-16.

1. I will like to request information on what the following codes stand for in calendar column 2 (reasons for discontinuation):
K, P, Q R, S, T, W
In total, these account for 13313 observations of the variable ev903a ("discontinuation code (alpha)"- obtained using example 7 of the calendar tutorial). If these codes are India survey specific, I may need to adjust my commands accordingly. The women's questionnaire from NFHS-4 indicates 4 codes (N, M, G, L) apart from X (indicates other) that are not reflected in the "reasonlist" used in the do-file. I understand from the calendar tutorial that the characters K and W are special codes and need to be dropped. But I am not sure of the other 5 codes: P, Q R, S, T, and will like to clarify.

2. Also, NFHS-4 data has calendar column 7 and I will request information on what it is.

3. Even though the questionnaire refers to a calendar column devoted to ultrasound conducted during pregnancy, I don't find it in the dataset.

4. Finally, I fail to understand that the calendar column 1 does not have a specific category for emergency contraception even though NFHS-4 is DHS phase VI survey. Have I missed something here?

Thank you
Deepali

1. Codes for column 2:
P: Lack of sexual satisfaction (L in 2005-06)
Q: Created menstrual problem (M in 2005-06)
R: Gained weight (G in 2005-06)
S: Did not like method (N in 2005-06)
T: Lack of privacy (P in 2005-06)
W: Other
K: "Don't know"

2. I believe column 7 is empty and is not used in NFHS-4

3. The information on Ultrasounds should be in column 6.

4. Yes, I believe that is correct. Use of emergency contraception was not recorded in the calendar in this survey.
