Hello,

I am working with IPUMS DHS dataset for women and I wanted to ask how the Tanzania's districts were coded (in the sample years 1991, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2010 and 2015). I communicated with IPUMS Team via email ipums@umn.edu and I was recommended to post my question here.

I need this information to infer ethnicity to analyse the impact of women's land rights established in the Village Land Act 1999 on the quality of life of Tanzania's families. I conduct a difference-in-difference analysis, with individuals living in a matrilineal kinship as the counterfactual and members of patrilineal societies as the treatment group.

I count with the fact that the borders of some regions and districts changed over time, still I would like to know what number corresponds to which district for the certain year (1996 - 2015). It does not matter that once Kondoa,Chemba may be coded as district 1 and next year it is coded as 2 as long as I know their actual names (only an example). Only then I can assess the ethnicity.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Kind regards,
Veronika
