Hi,

I am currently working with the continuous survey for Senegal from 2017. I had a closer look at the variable HV226 (cooking fuel) and I was quite surprised that according to the data not even a single household uses wood as its primary cooking fuel. However, based on my experice in Senegal most households, especially in rural areas, cook using wood as their primary fuel.

My hypothesis when looking at the table is that wood was simply recoded to "coal/lignite", but I would appreciate any clarification on this matter.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nathanael

Following is a response from Senior DHS Data Specialist, Keith Purvis:

"Your hypothesis is correct. Wood was incorrectly recoded to "Coal/lignite". We will issue a new data release with this correction."

Dear DHS Team,

I looked at the most recent data from Senegal and apparently, the coding error is still present:

All the best,
Julian

We have not yet made the correction. When that is done, you will receive a Data Alert from the system.
