Hi all,

I'm new to this valuable DHS microdata set. I would like to understand FGM and ethnicity. However, the V131 variable from sub-Saharan countries is not very consistent with Murdock (1959)'s ethnicity Atlas.
Has someone done this before? or there is any do file that can rename the ethnicity? or at least some reference so that I can rename them manually?

Because I'm not very familiar with African ethnicity. It's difficult for me to distinguish them.

The attached file is the slave trade exports by ethnicity (according to Murdock 1959) data download from Nunn(2011) from Harvard.
and I think this paper by Edoardo Teso, "the Long-term effect of demographic shock on the evolution of gender roles: evidence from the trans-Atlantic slave trade" also merges them successfully.

Thanks a lot!!!
