		Hi,

I am currently working with the DHS data and I do not fully understand the eligibility criteria for the individual surveys. As far as I understood, women of age 15-49 and men of age 15-59 are eligible for the individual surveys in most countries. However, comparing the number of respondents in the PR files of the respective age group with the number of respondents in the MR and IR files, I find large differences especially for the MR datasets (e.g. around 20.000 men of age 15-59 in PR file, but only 7.500 observations in the MR file). I probably just miss a simple eligibility criterion, but I couldn't find any information on the forum and the DHS website so far.
Thanks for every response and help!

Best,
Lea

Which are the specific samples that you are interested in? Some samples survey only husbands of women included in the women's sample, and some survey a subset of households for the men's questionnaire. For example, the household variable HV027 indicates whether a household was selected for the men's or husband's survey.
