Dear,
We are calculating the use of any tobacco product in the India 2015 survey. Variable v463x (other tocabbo products) in the IR and MR datasets were supposed to include the variables s710c and s710e for the IR and sm609e and sm609c for the MR datasets, but this is not what happens. Thus using v463a-v463x to estimate the use of any tobacco product is not giving the right estimate (according to what is published).
Here is one example of a cross tabulation of v463x s710e in the IR dataset:
. ta v463x s710e
smokes |
other (see | type of tobacco used:
s710c and | khaini
s710e) | no yes | Total
-----------+----------------------+----------
no | 679,192 14,631 | 693,823
yes | 5,569 294 | 5,863
-----------+----------------------+----------
Total | 684,761 14,925 | 699,686
Is this an error in the dataset?
Thank you.

Following is a response from Senior Data Processing Specialist, Mianmian Yu:
Table 11.8 in the final report has used V463A, S707, V463E, V463B, S710C, V463F, S710E, V463G, V463C, V463D, V463X for any tobacco use in women, and MV463A, SM606, MV463E, MV463B, SM609C, MV463F, SM609E, MV463G, MV463C, MV463D, MV463X for any tobacco use in men. According to the survey's questionnaire/data collection, information contained in these variables is mutually exclusive and none of the variables are supposed to be combined with others.
