Hey I have a few questions.

I am trying to analyse the relationship between child undernutrition and foreign aid in Malawi at the sub-regional level.
I will be using SPSS data for the Malawi years of 2010 and 2015/6.

I understand in order to get the child's district (variable) that I have to merge the child and household datasets.
But as the household is more hierarchical, would I be unable to have the child as the unit of analysis ?

Thank you,
Hillary J

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

The heights and weights of children are measured as part of the household interview and are included in the household (PR) file. That file also includes all the geographic information. There is no need to use the KR file. Moreover, the KR file omits children in the household whose mother is not also in the household. If you use the PR file you will get a more representative sample of all children in Malawi.

Thank You,

I tried opening the PR file to find the Height/Age variable for Children. But all the data was missing. Would I have to merge the Child file with the household recode ?

What's the complete name of the file you are looking at, and which variables are you missing?

Hey Sorry,

I just realized I was looking at MIS data for Malawi 2010 rather than the standard. But I do have some questions i regards to the coding of house members for PR file.

Firstly I would like to use the data for stunting, water treatment, and free medical support.
I have attached a file of an example of the dataset, I will be forming by merging DHS with AidData's Malawi Aid Platform.

I am slightly confused about the repetitions, are they just each person in a household ? If is there a way of knowing which household they belong to ?

Last question is there no data on health expenditure for participants eg. (Out of Pocket, Help from an NGO, Government), as I belivie that I saw a variable as such, but I could not find it again.

Thanks so much for your help.

Kind Regards,
HilLary J
