Where can I find information about biomarkers on your website?

Information about biomarkers can be found at this link:
http://www.measuredhs.com/What-We-Do/Biomarkers.cfm

Once you click on the link, scroll down to see a list of biomarkers.

Hello All,
I have found several variables(SHBM, HA40, HB40) for BMI.
When I run the frequency it shows very large outcomes. Like lower value of BMI is 1289, 1245 etc.
But the BMI value should not be like this.

I am confused about which variable should I use for my analysis?

Thank in advance.

Dear User,
Can you be a little more specific about what you are trying to accomplish? Are you trying to replicate one of the tables in the final report? If so, please give the table number, name and page in the final report.
Thank you!

Dear Baker,
Some biomarkers need to be transformed from the way they are stored in the dataset in order to get results that make sense. Oftentimes, they are multiplied by some factor of 10 to get at a certain number of decimal places. Look at the DHS Recode Manual on what needs to be done with the BMI variable. My guess, based on your example, is divide by 100, but check the recode manual to be sure.

Here's a link to the DHS-6 recode manual http://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG4/Recode6_DHS_22March2013 _DHSG4.pdf. The variables should be transformed in the same way from wave to wave, but use the appropriate recode manual just to be sure.

hth,
RHS

Thank you very much for the information. I have got the point now. According to the recode manual the BMI is multiplied by 100.But I have got three variables for BMI (HA40, HB40 and SHBM).Three variables shows different frequencies for valid cases and missing cases. For analysis which one should I select? I have got the same problem for variables age( HV105, SH234, SH234C) sex (HC27, HV104)marital status (SH08, SH235.

I would be grateful if you pls make it clear.

Thank You
Note: I am working with DHS 2011 survey in Bangladesh

I am a student researcher from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am working with Hypertension and Diabetes part.
I found several variables for BMI(SHBM HA40 HB 40), Blood Pressure (246S SH246D SH264S SH264D FSYSTO FDYSTO) and Diabetes (SH284 SH284A SH284G SH284B). Among these variables some has different frequencies.

In the final report tables which variables were used?

Thanks

Dear User,
I am not a programmer, but I have attached two files. They both relate to CSPro and have information which will help you identify the variables used in Chapter 15 of the Bangladesh DHS2011 final report. Many of these variables are country specific. The first file, CHAPT15_Table_Definitions.txt is a text file and contains the table definitions for the tables used in the final report. The second file, TABWORK_CH15.txt contains a description of most of the variable names used and their value labels if any. Both can be opened with a regular text editor. You can also reference the map file distributed with the data to see all the recoded variables in the dataset. It is important to know that most of the tables in our Final Reports are Weighted unless it says otherwise in the report.

To help in your analysis with standard variables (not country specific), you may also want to read The Guide to DHS Statistics http://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG1/Guide_to_DHS_Statistics _29Oct2012_DHSG1.pdf, The Standard Recode Manual http://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG4/Recode6_DHS_22March2013 _DHSG4.pdf and check out our section of Using Datasets for Analysis on our website http://dhsprogram.com/data/Using-DataSets-for-Analysis.cfm

Thank you!
