Hello,

For 'HML32: Final result of malaria from blood smear test' in the Malawi 2014 MIS dataset, data according to the DHS-VI recode manual are coded with values 0,1,6,7, & 9. However, upon examining the data I am also seeing values coded as 5 & 4 (Ex: Case ID: 40008). Can someone please offer guidance on the meaning of these values?

Cheers,
April

Dear April,
Sometimes the recode will vary slightly depending on the country. For the Malawi MIS 2014 the variable hml32 options are shown below.
To calculate Malaria prevalence according to RDT for the Malawi MIS 2014 you can use the following code
use "MWPR71FL.DTA", clear
*Weighting
g wgt = hv005/1000000

*Parasitemia (vis RDT) in children 6-59 months
                cap gen rdtmalpos=0
                cap replace rdtmalpos=(hml35==1)
                cap lab var rdtmalpos "Parasitemia (via RDT) in children 6-59 months"

* Proportion of children 6-59 months old with malaria infection (RDT)
tab rdtmalpos if hc1>=6 & hc1<=59 & hv103==1 & hml33==0 & (hml35==0|hml35==1) [iweight=wgt]
