Hello,

I am attempting to replicate Table 2.4 from the Malawi 2010 DHS Report.
Find my (stata) code below:

gen weight=hv005/1000000
svyset [pw=weight], psu(hv021) strata(hv022)

svy:tab hv122 if inrange(hv105,6,13) & hv025==1 & hv104==1 & hv103==1 /// range given in the notes in DHS Final report Table 2.4 where hv103==1 is defacto, hv025==1 is urban, and hv104==1 is male.

Output from this code is giving me that ratio attended =92.76% instead of 96.3% as reported in the DHS Report.
May you kindly tell me where I am getting this wrong?

Thank you.

Following is a response from DHS Senior Research Associate, Shireen Assaf:

The footnote in the table indicates that it is for age 6-13 years but it's actually for 7-12 years, according to the CSPro code on file. You can match the table with this command:

svy:tab hv122 if inrange(hv105,7,12) & hv025==1 & hv104==1 & hv103==1

The age range for primary school varies slightly from one country to another. We will notify the appropriate staff of this error in the footnote. Thank you for catching it.

Thank you for that clarification. However, the official school starting age in Malawi is actually six years not seven, so the footnote was actually correct though the coding was not. Thank you so much.

Thanks for alerting us to this. We will discuss the best way to make a correction. In any case, you now know why you were not matching the table.
