Dear Trevor-DHS,
I am working on Pakistan DHS. I want to investigate the determinants of early initiation of breastfeeding in Pakistani women, using IR file and variable M34_1 (for last birth only). The DHS report presented the rate of early initiation of breastfeeding in the children born two years preceding the survey.I already viewed the DHS statistic guide and recede manual but found only births in last five years preceding the survey(V208)and births in last three years preceding the survey (V238). Kindly guide me which variable is exactly showing the births in two years preceding the survey and children everbreastfed.
Regards

Hi there,

I have also been working in breastfeeding stuffs and I specified children below 24 months by; computing V008-B3<24, the resultant unit is in months. V008 is date of interview and B3 is date of birth.
here is SPSS code,

Compute age=V008-B3.
Select if age<24.

And for ever breastfeed, we need to recode M4 as;

*For EVER BREASTFEED only, which includes (ever breastfeed, not currently) and still breastfeeding.

RECODE M4 (93=1) (95=1) (ELSE=2) INTO EverBF.
VARIABLE LABELS EverBF 'Ever Breastfeeding'.
EXECUTE.

Hope this helps. Please check.
