Hello,

I am writing regarding the coding of the elements in the reproductive calendar.

I am using the calendar for various countries and an issue I often encounter is that the coding of the elements differs by country. I usually refer to the final country's report and the explanation of the calendar coding at the end of women recode but sometimes the codes in the datasets differ from the ones in the report (or dhs manual).

For example, in Armenia_2010 dataset there is an element "G" in the calendar, but there is not such contraceptive method/pregnancy history element specified in the report.

I wonder if DHS has some file/resource, which could be made available to users, which specifies for each country exact coding of the calendar elements so that it is easier to identify the episodes of contraceptive use.

I think that would be generally very helpful for those users who conduct a cross-country analysis using the calendar.

Many thanks for you help in advance!

Ewa

Dear User,
Quote:

The codes found in the calendar in the recode file are not the same as the codes used at the time of data
collection. The codes in the calendar are recoded to a common standard coding scheme. The DHS6 recode
manual provides details of the coding used in the recode file (pages 98 and 99). The link to The Standard Recode Manual can be found on our website: https:// dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsg4-dhs-questionna ires-and-manuals.cfm
