I am trying to connect each adult with their mother such that I can see their mother's education and their household income. I am totally lost so any guidance will be really helpful. I am working on Bangladeshi dataset.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

In the PR file for most countries, hv112 gives the line number of the mother for children under age 18 if the child and mother are in the household. (In the Bangladesh surveys, that variable was not used.) There is no reliable way to link adult children (age 18+) to their mothers in the same household. Even if you could do this, there would be a great deal of selectivity. Most adult children, in most countries, do not live in the same household as their mother. DHS surveys do not have household income.

I don't need them to be living in the same household as long as I can get mother's
education and her income. I was wondering if it is even possible in this dataset
because mother's education is one of the
biggest regressor in my equation. Thank you for your all help and time.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

There is no explicit question about the education of the mother. Level of education is collected for every adult in the household, and during data processing the child is linked to the mother by line number and her education is attached to the child's record. Therefore mother's education is only available in DHS data if the mother lives in the same household as the child. Income is not included in DHS surveys.
