Hello,

We have been trying to replicate several indicators and we bumped into some differences (specially when working with breastfeeding indicators) that were due to age in months.
According to the definition we have been using, we generate the age in months based on date of interview (v008) - date of birth (b3).
Therefore, we found inconsistencies when comparing to the hw1 variable which is also age in months from the anthropometry module.

When generating the denominator for the continued breastfeeding (12-15 and 20-23) indicators in Malawi 2015, Tanzania 2015 and Zimbabwe 2015 surveys, we were only able to get closer to the published estimate by using the hw1 variable instead of the created age in months.
As far as we know, the variables were supposed to match (whenever hw1 is not missing). Is there any errors in the datasets or is there an explanation for these differences?

Thanks

Leonardo

Dear User,
This response from senior technical expert, Mr. Trevor Croft may help. If not please feel free to post again.

For data users who are having trouble matching the denominators for the child-related tables in the newest surveys, this might be the reason. If it is the reason then linking to http://dhsprogram.com/data/calculating-the-age-of-children.cfm will provide the user with hopefully all of the answers they need.
