Dear Team,

Being new to the dhs program data sets, I have a few questions I would like to pose. I have searched the forum and have not found relevant answers to my questions. I am working on a Malaria project in Malawi. I am using MIS14 data sets. I have the recode manual dhs VI that I am using. However, I am finding it challenging to:

1) Link 0-59 months old children to their Malaria test results which are given by these codes (hml32, hml33 or hml 35. I cannot find these results in the data set.
2) After identifying these under fives, how do i link them to their mother's and also household characteristics?

Regards,
Onzo

Hi
How can I connect each child to their household?
I want to do a household level analysis but I do not know how to put each child in their specific household.
And the variable hv002 in the IMASIDA 2015 (Mozambique) has 212 lines and there are 7169 households. What do 212 line numbers correspond to?

Dear DHS team,

I have a follow-up question on using Nigeria MIS 2010 and 2015. In your published final report for NMIS2015, there are counts for children U5 who had a positive result for malaria measurement in each state, however, the NMIS2010 report didn't have such detailed information. I would like to know 1) what does those counts mean, are they weighted number of infected children under 5 or the raw counts, are those number representative? 2) if so, how to compute the counts of children U5 who had positive results for malaria measurement in each state in Nigeria. I would like to have the comparable numbers in both 2015 and 2010.

Thanks for your kind help!

Best, J

A response from malaria expert, Cameron Taylor:

Dear User,
All DHS Program tables are weighted (unless otherwise noted in the table). You can learn more about weighted tables by reading through the Reading and Understanding Tables from the 2015 Nigeria Malaria Indicator Survey (NMIS) pdf. Please pay close attention to page 4 of the document. https://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/DM93/DM93.pdf

To answer your second question the 2010 Nigeria MIS did not sample at the state level. This means that it is not possible to compare state level data between the 2010 and 2015 MIS. You can read more about the sampling design of both reports in Appendix A in the back of each report.
