I have a question about the variables for womens's influence in the household in NDHS 2006 and 2011 (variables v743a-f). The question in the questionnaire was "Who usuually makes decision about...", and the answers could be respondent, husband, jointly, someone else, or other. In the datasets, the answers are coded as follows;
Respondent; 1
Respondent; 2
Husband; 4
Someone; 5
Other; 6

Is there a difference between 1 and 2?

Dear User,
I looked at the frequencies for both surveys, Nepal DHS 2006 and Nepal DHS 2011 and found the following labels for recode variable V743A and the variables in this series:
1 Respondent alone
2 Respondent and husband/partn
4 Husband/partner alone
5 Someone else
6 Other

I also looked at the questionnaires and did not see what you indicated. Perhaps the editor you were using was truncating the labels so that you could only see the first part of the label. Please let me know if you still have a problem, and we will investigate further.

Thank You!
