Hello,
I am using the Peruvian DHS from 2008 to 2012. I have compared the datasets from the Peruvian statistical agency (http://iinei.inei.gob.pe/microdatos/) with the datasets from the DHS website and I have found some differences. For instance, I have some small differences in the number of observations or I have differences in missing values coding. The main difference is about the wealth index variable. The coding in both datasets are totally different. Do you have an explanation for these differences?
Thank you in advance for your help,

Which type of data are you referring to in your post? Please specify it it's: Household characteristics, household members, Individual Woman characteristics, Birth History, Maternal Health, Child Health, Athropometry, Chronic Illness, etc.
Also, please describe what variables are involved, in which years, and what the values are.

For instance, for 2012, I am comparing the dataset PEHR6IFL.DTA from the DHS website with the file rech23 (Household characteristics) from the statistical agency website.
The values for the variable HV271 (Wealth index factor score (5 decimals)) are completely different in both files. In rech23, the values are (from the smallest to the highest): -99000, -98000, ... , 210000, 213000. In PEHR6IFL.DTA the values are (from the smallest to the highest): -192828, -191183, ..., 206151, 206306.
The variable HV270 (Wealth index) is coded in the same way (from 1 to 5) in both files but some individuals don't have the same number in both files.
Thank you!

Following is a reply from Senior DHS Specialist, Shea Rutstein:
I am not sure of the difference. However, the wealth index was corrected for 2012 in the DHS Standard Recode so maybe that is it. Also the INEI website dataset is only to 2 decimals, while the DHS website has 5 decimals, which is our standard. I suggest you create a DHS user account, and use the DHS Standard Recode datasets.
