Hi There,

My question concerns a conflict in the questionnaire and the scoring calculations for the Indonesia 2012 Wealth Index. Specifically, the response options for Question 107 of the household form include "Private with Septic Tank" followed by "Private with NO Septic Tank". However, in reviewing the Wealth Index Spreadsheet with coefficients, the response options are labeled as "Flush toilet to sewer" (Urban Coefficient = 0.10325) followed by "Flush toilet to septic tank" (Urban Coefficient = -0.01853).

I appreciate if you could clarify the association between the questionnaire and the score labels. My assumptions is that the response of "private with septic tank" is supposed to equate with the weighting for "flush toilet to sewer". Also, the negative coefficient for "flush toilet to septic tank" implies that it is actually supposed to equate with the response of "private with NO septic tank".

Also, centralized sewerage is extremely rare in Indonesia, covering perhaps 1% of the population. Thus, generally the "best" facility is a private toilet which connects to a compliant, sealed septic tank.

I greatly appreciate your assistance.

Thanks,
Allen
