Hey,

Using the Kenya DHS 2014 , the variable that shows the mosquito bed designation number is hmlidx_1 to hmldx_7. The sum of hmlidx_1 to hmldx_7 gives me a total of 46792 mosquito nets for all the households in the dataset. There is a second variable that asks households to state the total of mosquito nets they have. This variable gives a total of 23,388 mosquito nets. My expaectation was for the two totals to be equal. Why do we have a discrepancy?

Dear User,
Please provide clarification about what file you are using and the specific variables you are referring to. Please look closely at the questionnaires used in the final report and reference the Standard Recode Manual.

http:// dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-DHSG4-DHS-Questionna ires-and-Manuals.cfm. It can help you better understand variables in the dataset.
Thank you!

I am using the Household file of the 2014 Kenya DHS. I wanted to know the total number of bed nets owned by households. I have managed to sort it out by summing variables hmlidx_1 to hmlidx_7 OR using variable hml1 which gives me the same result. Thank you very much.
