Good morning,
I am preparing for a thesis study of examining the dissemination of mother-daughter FGC in Egypt and determining the prevalence of daughter FGC (a comparison of the years 1995 & 2005 for both), however, given the anonymity of the data, I am wondering if this is possible and how this may be possible? I am assuming this is feasible, given the nature of the surveys. Please can you help a very lost soul with this...
Kindest regards,

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:
Yes, this is possible. Open the file EGIR61FL.dta in Stata, and enter "describe g*". You will see that g101 describes whether the woman is circumcised. The g121 variables (indexed with _01, _02, etc.) describe whether each of her daughters is circumcised; g122 (also indexed) gives age at circumcision, etc. You would probably want to construct a "daughter" file, with one record per daughter (with the mother's information duplicated for each daughter), and link with some of the information in the BR file and possibly the PR file. There have been some previous forum posts on this topic that you may want to check.
