Dear Sir/Madam,
I am not getting exact number of children age 0-59 months stunted by the caste. Please suggest, which variables should be use for this and how can we get exact number. Refer table 10.1: Nutritional status of children, NFHS-3, 2005-06, India report, page no. 270.

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for reply.
My problem still not resolved yet.
I am using variable "SH46" for the Caste but unfortunately not getting exact number from the raw data and reported in the report. The following numbers are reported in the report and getting numbers from raw data.
Scheduled caste 9585 (Raw data) 9,531 (Reported)
Scheduled tribe 4362 (Raw data) 4,448 (Reported)
Other backward class 19178 (Raw data) 18,969 (Reported)
None of above 12014 (Raw data) 13,351 (Reported)
DK 167 (Raw data) 193 (Reported)
Total 45306
Missing 9 164
System 1185
Total 1349
Total 46655
Please suggest.

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for the forwarded message to data processing specialist.
I am waiting for the response and solution will be very helpful to generate tables for the stunted children age 0-59 months and 0-35 months by caste (as figure given in the report).
With Regards,
Kailash

A response from senior data processing specialist Mr. Albert Themme:
Quote:
The denominator for Table 10.1 "Nutritional status of children" is restricted to de facto children ( HV103 = 1) and to HC70 not missing and smaller than 9990.
For these children "stunting" is then defined as HC70 < -300 (Height-for-age below -3 SD) or HC70 < -200 (Height-for-age below -2 SD).
The variable indicating caste/tribe = S118
Hope this is useful.

Dear Liz,
Thanks for the reply. The variable indicating caste/tribe = S118 is not existing in the data file "IAPR50FL" but available in the data file "IAKR50FL" and "IAIR50FL".
If we merge variable S118 in the data file "IAPR50FL" from the "IAKR50FL" or "IAIR50FL" then what procedure should be follow for merging process.
Please help.
With Regards,
Kailash
