Dear users,

I intend to use age of the child at death. The variable in Tanzania data set is B6. To my understanding, the content is in days, months and year. Can someone assist me to get the usable age (100 to 329 mean what?)

This information is contained in the DHS Recode Manual (link to the recode manuals here: stionnaires-and-manuals.cfm), and depending on the package you are using, it may already be built into the variable. There are also a FRQ or FRW that comes in the ZIP file your dataset was shipped in that contains information on what the codes mean.

There is a wealth of information on how to use the data available on the DHS website and I suggest you familiarize yourself with them if you often use DHS data in your work. I work with a lot of datasets from different sources (including primary data my org* collects), and I can honestly say that DHS does an excellent job in providing documentation and datasets that are more or less ready to use.

See the DHS recode manual.
Values 100-199 are in days, e.g. 103 means 03 days, 121 means 21 days.
Values 201-299 are in months, e.g. 202 means 02 months.
Values 301-399 are in years, e.g. 304 means 04 years.
