PSUs in earlier versions of DHS [message #8381]

Dear all,

I was wondering if all the version of DHS for a country are carried out in the same clusters (PSUs) over time.
In particular, I'm working with 2008 Bolivia DHS. Can I use data for 2003 DHS in order to incorporate time-varying information on cluster-level covariates?

Any advice can be extremely useful, thank you in advance.

Here is a response from one of the members from our GIS team:

Generally, DHS surveys are not fielded in the same PSUs between survey years. This is the case in Bolivia, so unfortunately you cannot compare results over time at the cluster level. You may compare results at the representative region level for the surveys, although those boundaries changed slightly between these surveys: see http://spatialdata.dhsprogram.com/boundaries/#view=map&c ountryId=BO&surveyId=319%2C238&level=1%2C1 for a comparison.
