Hi,

I'm trying to regenerate the distribution of urban/rural areas by wealth index as found in the 2006 Nepal DHS report page 21 (http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/FR191/FR191.pdf).

I am not getting the same numbers when I tab the place of residence and wealth index vars by row (tab var1 var2, row) in stata. Do I have to weight the dataset before? What recode file does one use for wealth index?

Finally, what is the difference between the wealth index and wealth index score variable?

You may want to refer to Working Paper 60, The DHS Wealth Index:Approaches for Rural and Urban Areas. It was written by Dr. Shea Rutstein who is an expert on this topic. http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/WP60/WP60.pdf
