I noticed that some surveys have a pregnancy history as opposed to a birth history. Can you please explain the difference between the two?

Birth history: an accounting of all live births, that is, pregnancies that resulted in a birth that was born alive, even if it later died. Thus, all live births are included, while stillbirths, miscarriages, and abortions are excluded.
Pregnancy history: an accounting of all pregnancies, which includes pregnancies which resulted in live births, stillbirths, miscarriages, and abortions.

Liz,

Can you clarify how I can tally the number of pregnancies? Which dataset, and which variable names, should I be using?

Best wishes,
Pavani
