Which re-code file can be used to look at the proportion of children under the age of five who have birth certificates?

For the 2008 and 2013 Nigerian PR files, there were different parameters for collecting birth certification data. For 2013:

HV140 Member has a birth certificate
0 Neither certificate or registered
1 Has certificate
2 Registered
8 Don't know
(m) 9 Missing
(na) Not ap

For 2008 they did not ask this question, but only recorded if a birth certificate was seen: var SH33A

Was the sample, in 2008, for variable SH33A, all women who reported being registered (i.e. equivalent to HV140=2, in 2013)?

Dear User,
In the Nigeria DHS 2008, the recode variable SH33 is country specific and corresponds the QH33 in the household questionnaire. The birth registration information they were seeking was only for children 0 to 4 years old. I looked at the recode application for the Nigeria DHS 2008 and found this:

  if HV105(i) in 0:4 then
        HV140(i)  = notappl;			{ Member has a birth certificate }
      endif;

This is also looking at children 0-4 years. The Nigeria DHS 2008 made the variable QH33 country specific SH33 because the variable differed from the standard. The standard core questionnaire variable had a code of 3 for neither.
1 has certificate
2 registered
3 neither
8 don't know
The Nigeria DHS questionnaire only had:
1 yes
2 no
8 dk

Otherwise they would have used HV140 as you indicated. Hope this answers your question. If you still have questions, please feel free to post again.
