On the questionnaire used for this survey (specifically domestic violence,Ghana DHS 2008), questions relating to physical violence ( D105A-D105F,D105H and D105I) have answer choices yes/no. Subsequently, anyone who answers 'yes' would proceed to further answer the following "often" , "sometimes" and "not at all".

1. How could someone answer "yes" and then go ahead to say "not at all" ?
2. for the set same variables ( D105A-D105F,D105H and D105I), there is a forth label (i.e. Yes, widow/frequency missing). What does this mean and how was it arrived at?

Thank you
Ebenezer

    1. The first set of questions are about whether the person has ever experienced physical violence, while the second set is about physical violence in the last 12 months, so "Not at all" means not at all in the last 12 months.
    2. The category "yes, widow/frequency missing" is used for two groups:
      a. Women who had experienced physical violence from their husband in the past, but were not married in the past 12 months as they were widows.
      b. Women who had experienced physical violence from their husband in the past, but no answer was given for whether it was often, sometimes, or not at all in the last 12 months.
