We are using the DHS 2007 data for the Dominican Republic.
I am wondering about the code/re-code for ORS (oral rehydration solutions) variables.
H13 is the code for special packets of oral-salt-water solution (ORS) [i am assuming specific to the dry powder packet]
H13B codes for pre-packaged ORS liquid (e.g., Pedialite)
These seem to map on directly to the DHS questionnaire items.

From our analysis of these 2 variables in the 2007 Dominican Republic data, it appears that everyone that is coded yes for H13B also coded yes for H13 (i.e., everyone that reported using ORS liquid also reported using the special packets ORS, said another way, no one used ORS liquid only). While I would expect some overlap between these two practices, it seems unusual that there would be complete overlap of positive response to H13B with H13.

Can someone confirm that H13 is not some type of collapsed variable (i.e., all special packets and liquids combined) which might explain this overlap. If this was the case, is there not then another variable that just reports on ORS packets (i.e., without liquid)? I am sure others have used these ORS variable for other country studies so I assume if there is any special coding this would be known.

Thanks
