Dear DHS team,

I would like to ask a question about the dataset Indonesia DHS 2017. In the questionnaire there were two questions about the knowledge of pregnant women about pregnancy complications (413D and 413E). But in the dataset there are no data about this. Please your kind help.

Thank you and best regards.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

I suggest that you open the IR file and enter the following lines:
keep *_1

lookfor complic

The first line ("keep *_1") is just so the variables won't be listed 6 times.  These questions are asked about each child born in the last 5 years (up to 6 children) and the variables have survey-specific names (beginning with the letter "s").  They are coded with a separate variable for each option because multiple options could apply.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the Indonesia DHS 2017 dataset. Let's address your query about the missing data related to pregnancy complications.

In the questionnaire, there were two questions specifically related to the knowledge of pregnant women about pregnancy complications: 413D and 413E. However, you've noticed that these questions are not present in the dataset.

Check Variable Names and Labels
Verify that you are looking for the correct variable names in the dataset. Sometimes the variable names in the dataset may differ slightly from those in the questionnaire.
Ensure that you are searching for variables related to pregnancy complications under the appropriate section.
Explore the Dataset Documentation
Refer to the documentation provided with the dataset. It often contains information about variable names, labels, and any modifications made during data processing.
Look for any notes or explanations regarding missing variables or changes in variable names.
Contact the DHS Program Support
If you still cannot find the relevant variables, consider reaching out to the DHS Program support team. They can provide specific guidance related to the Indonesia DHS 2017 dataset.
You can find contact information on the DHS Program website.
Remember that discrepancies between the questionnaire and the dataset can occur due to various reasons, such as data cleaning, recoding, or merging. The DHS Program team can provide more detailed assistance based on their expertise.
