Hi all,

I need to merge two datasets, for that I would need information on both village and province but I cannot find it for the 2021 Burkina Faso dataset. I didn't manage to have access to the geographical dataset neither. Could anyone help me in that matter?

Best,
Katja

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

You do not say what files you want to merge, but you do not need those identifiers in order to do a merge. The ID codes for cluster, household, and individual are sufficient. If, say, you want to merge the PR and IR files, you match hv001 hv002 hvidx in the PR file with v001 v002 v003 in the IR file. Let us know if you still have a question.

Dear Janet,

I want to merge them with an external dataset that contains information on a public intervention run in Burkina Faso at the village level. In order to merge it with DHS data, I would need the village names. Is there a way this data is available for Burkina Faso?

Many thanks,
Katja

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

DHS surveys do not include information that would identify the PSUs (clusters). The GPS files include the latitude and longitude of the clusters, with some displacement that is random but stays within the same administrative level 2 units. If you have the coordinates of the villages in your external dataset, you could merge them with the nearest cluster(s) in the DHS files. You could not be sure that you had a genuine match, but that's the best that is possible.
