Hello,

I am trying to calculate the Percent distribution of live births by persons providing assistance during delivery, and the percentage assisted by a skilled provider using the IR file for Zambia. Is it possible? kindly guide on the steps

Hello,
Could you provide the year of the Zambia survey you are referring to?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

It will be easier if you use the KR file rather than the IR file. In this survey the relevant questions were asked about all births in the past five years, and those births are the cases in the KR file. The variable m15 is place of delivery. The questions about birth attendance allow for more than one type of person to be present (for example, a doctor and a nurse) and there are separate variables for each type of person, m3a through m3n (but m3n is "no one").

The final reports on DHS surveys include tables on place of delivery and types of birth attendants. You may be able to get the information you need just from the final report or from STATcompiler. Our GitHub site includes programs to construct those tables. If you want more than is in the final report, the GitHub program for the tables will show how to construct the indicators.
