The case IDs in the woman data set of the 2014 Ghana DHS data set seemed duplicated so we cleaned it out to get just the unique IDs in the data set. The unique IDs we got amounted to 6,511 women but the DHS report mentioned that 9,693 women were sampled. Can anyone help me understand why there is a discrepancy between the sample size we got using the case IDs and the number of women who actually participated in the study. Thanks

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

There are no duplicated women. Perhaps you were using the KR file, rather than the IR file? The KR file has one record for each child born in the past five years, and includes the mother's information, so mothers of more than one child will appear more than once; women who had no children will not appear at all.
