Hi everyone,

Based on the final report, the NFHS-5 collected dried blood spots. However, I could not find the corresponding variables in the data files. Are these results not publicly available? Can I request access?

Best,
Sarah

In NFHS-5, capillary finger-stick blood was collected on filter paper cards for a subsample of women age 15-49 and men age 15-54. The dried blood spots were transferred to the ICMR - National AIDS Research Center for storage and analysis. That laboratory is responsible for analyzing the DBS for HbA1C and Vitamin D. A subsample of the DBS were sent to the ICMR - National Institute for Malaria Research laboratory to analyze several malaria indicators. Although the blood sample were collected as part of the NFHS-5 fieldwork, the analysis and publication of the results are a separate ICMR operation, and the data are not included in the NFHS-5 datasets.
